MESA, AZ — A woman who was allegedly driving under the influence while her four children were inside her vehicle was arrested Thursday in Mesa.

According to court records, 34-year-old Elizabeth Christy was arrested after her 14-year-old daughter called police claiming her mother was abusing her.

The 14-year-old told authorities that Christy had been drinking all day and had driven her four children to Gilbert while intoxicated. Authorities added that the 14-year-old reported that Christy also punched her several times in the head, threw her on the ground, and placed her arm around her neck.

Court records stated the minor ran to neighbors nearby and asked them to call the police.

Once at the scene, police placed Christy under arrest after noticing the 14-year-old had a visible head injury and Christy had bloodshot eyes, an odor of alcohol, and slurred speech, court records showed.

Christy was transported and booked to Mesa City Jail for aggravated assault on a minor.
