New details have been released in the stabbing death of a Laveen mother.

According to court documents, On May 28 the mother, 63-year-old Mercy Gomez, was trying to break up a family fight in the living room of her home, near 43rd Avenue and Baseline Road. She requested that her son Olanzo Gomez, age 42, leave home. He refused and instead went into his room, retrieved a knife and started stabbing his mother.

Police say three other family members tackled Gomez and they fought over his knife. Other victims were also cut on the hand, wrist, and shoulders as they tried to get the knife away from Gomez.

Gomez was held down until police could arrive. He's being held on a $1 Million bond on charges of First-degree murder.
