Phoenix police say they’ve arrested two women for several cell phone thefts at Valley gyms.

ABC15 first reported the thefts back in November. One of the incidents happened near 32nd Street and Indian School Road.

According to an alleged victim of the crime, one of the women would start talking to patrons or employees to distract them, and the second woman would go through their bags while holding a baby.

In one incident, the two women shoplifted items from a JC Penny store, placing them in a purse while they were in the restroom. They were confronted by a loss prevention officer as they tried to leave the store. While still holding the baby, the two women assaulted the officer. They managed to escape but left the purse behind.

Police identified the two suspects as 43-year-old Bonnie Herbert and 24-year-old Eboney Herbert. They were arrested on Tuesday.

According to officials, Bonnie is the mother of Eboney. The baby seen during the incidents is Eboney's daughter.

Police say the two were arrested at a hotel in Phoenix on Tuesday near Interstate 17 and Dunlap Avenue and will be charged with theft, shoplifting and endangerment.
