A Scottsdale woman is accused of extorting money from her disabled roommate after "cleaning out" her apartment.

Scottsdale police report that on April 18 Raymond Joseph Gonzales, 48, and Angela Renee Baker, 40, were arrested for theft and extortion.

Police say Baker was a roommate to a disabled woman living in her apartment near Scottsdale and McDowell roads.

They later befriended Gonzales, and in November they all took a trip to Las Vegas.

Police say Baker and Gonzales returned, but the victim remained in Las Vegas until January. She reportedly came home to find, "her entire apartment was cleaned out."

Shortly after that, she began to get anonymous e-mails requesting money for the return of her property.

The e-mail provided a post office box for the victim to send the money. Police say the box was registered to Baker.

When police located the couple, they were reportedly washing a box truck containing furniture belonging to the victim. They say Baker was also in possession of a purse and personal items belonging to the victim.

Both have been charged with theft and extortion.
