A Prescott off-duty firefighter and a citizen work together, to disarm and capture an alleged shoplifter.

Goodyear Police report that on April 5, Arturo Enrique Aguilar, 21, was seen on surveillance video taking several items from Fry’s Marketplace and leaving the store with a shopping cart, without paying.

Aguilar reportedly left the store, located at Sarival Avenue and Yuma Road and crossed the street, where an off-duty firefighter was driving. The firefighter was alerted to the shoplifter, stopped his truck and confronted Aguilar.

Aguilar, police say, cursed at the firefighter, picked up a 'softball sized' rock and threatened to throw it at him.

As the firefighter put his hand out to push him away, Aguilar reportedly hit himself in the head with the rock.

He soon picked up another large rock and threatened the firefighter again. This time the firefighter had help from a citizen who assisted him in disarming Aguilar and wrestling him to the ground.

Police say Aguilar stole over $800 worth of products from the store.

He's been charged with shoplifting, resisting arrest and multiple counts of aggravated assault.
