A Glendale couple is accused of using a belt to constrict, beat and strangle a 9-year-old boy.
According to court documents, on March 21 school staff noticed several injuries to the boy's body and contacted police. A nurse noted 30 separate injuries to the child's body.
The boy told police that his mother, Elisa Aubrey Jackson, 29, tied the boy's ankles and wrists and beat him with a belt all over his body. She then used a belt from a robe to strangle him and as she was doing it reportedly told the boy, "goodbye."
At the same time, the boy's step-dad, Christopher White, 49, was hitting the boy with a stick, records say.
Both White and Jackson were arrested on several charges of assault and child abuse. They chose not to speak to detectives after their arrests.
The boy's sister told police she witnessed a lot of the abuse.
The report also noted a previous report of abuse from the Department of Child Safety, but did not provide specifics.
No other details were released.
