PHX PD: man attacks woman holding 6-week-old

A Phoenix man has been arrested for brutally attacking his girlfriend while she was holding their infant child.

Court records show the couple's argument turned violent as he beat his girlfriend with such rage, that some of the blows hit their infant child.

Police say they were called to an apartment near 29th Avenue and Thunderbird Road on April 9. There they talked with the girlfriend of, 22-year-old Miguel Angel Torres, who told them they got into an argument after Torres came home drunk.

She said she was feeding their 6-week-old child when Torres allegedly attacked her, by punching her several times in the head. She said that she yelled at him that she was holding their child, but Torres reportedly said he didn't care. As she ran into the closet, Torres followed and continued his attack.

Police say at some point the woman fell to the floor still holding the baby, while Torres kicked her several times in the head and ribs.

Somehow the woman managed to get up off the floor and ran out of the home, with the child.

Police say that when they interviewed the victim, both of her eyes were swollen, and one was completely shut. The baby also had bruising and swelling to his forehead.

Torres has been charged with assault and aggravated assault.
