A Phoenix man is facing animal cruelty charges after police say he shot the family dog in the head and neck.

On November 25, officers were called to a home near 91st Avenue and Camelback Road to investigate reports of shots fired.

When officers arrived, 40-year-old Anthony Quinn Neal’s wife told police Neal shot the dog after the couple got into an argument.

Police say "Tiger" was taken to the veterinarian with non-life threatening wounds.

Police arrested Neal two days later.

Authorities say he admitted discharged his .40 caliber handgun, saying it accidentally fired when he was bringing the dogs in the house.
