Authorities say a Phoenix man is facing a felony charge of child abuse for allegedly burning his son as punishment for getting a tattoo.

Phoenix police arrested 37-year-old Bernardo Alcantar on Thursday in connection with the incident.

According to the arresting officer's probable cause statement, Alcantar heated a spoon over a candle and then used it to burn his son's chest Monday.

Police say the burn is in the shape of a triangle and is about 1 inch wide by 2 inches long.

The age of the boy hasn't been released.

Alcantar didn't have an attorney at his initial court appearance Friday.

A Maricopa County Superior Court judge set bail at $2,100 and ordered Alcantar to find another place to live because he cannot have any contact with his son.
