A man refused to leave a hospital and fought off three security officers with a knife and a cane.

Court records show that on June 6 around 7:30 p.m. a man refusing to leave the hospital fought with security officers hitting one with a cane and trying to stab two others.

Police report that 43-year-old Jason Edward Houchins was upset with the care he was getting at Maryvale hospital, near 51st Avenue and Camelback Road.

Houchins was discharged from the hospital, but refused to leave. Police say that three security officers arrived to escort Houchins off the property. Police say that Houchins pulled out a knife with a 4-inch blade and lunged at two of the officers. Another officer reportedly hit Houchins with a medical cart, but he fought back, hitting the officer with his metal cane.

Another officer was able to grab Houchins' arm and secure the knife and Houchins was wrestled to the ground and handcuffed.

Houchins has been charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.
