A Peoria man was able to detain a car burglar last week after being tipped off by his dog.

Court records show that on October 10 around 10:15 p.m., a man had opened the garage door to his home near 89th Avenue and Bell Road when his dog started barking near his truck.

The man told police that he looked and saw two legs sticking out of his truck. He then confronted the man, later identified as 20-year-old Tibor Balog, who tried to run away.

Balog slipped on some rocks and fell, allowing the victim to catch and hold him until police arrived.

During his police interview, Balog reportedly told police that he entered multiple vehicles to grab change for food and drugs.

Police say they found checks belonging to someone in the neighborhood in Balog's pants when he was being processed at police headquarters.

Balog has been charged with burglary.
