Police say a woman was sexually assaulted in a Scottsdale parking garage by a man she met on a dating app.
Scottsdale police report that on Oct. 1, they were contacted by a woman who said she was sexually assaulted in the parking garage at Scottsdale Fashion Square near Scottsdale and Camelback roads.
The victim reportedly told police that she met 20-year-old Fabiano Niyongabo on the dating app Tinder. After exchanging messages for a couple of weeks, they agreed to meet in person.
The woman parked her car in the first-floor parking garage, when Niyongabo pulled up in his car and asked her to get in so that they could get some food. They talked in the parked car for a while before Niyongabo allegedly became aggressive with her, locking the door and pulling her into the back seat where he sexually assaulted her.
Police say, after about 30 minutes, the victim was released and fled in her car. Police report that parking garage surveillance video shows Niyongabo pulling up, and the victim getting into and leaving his vehicle, but does not show what happened in the car.
Police say Niyongabo later texted an apology to the victim, saying, "I'm really sorry if you didn't like what I made you do."
Niyongabo was arrested by police on Oct. 13 in Glendale.
He is being held without bond on charges of sexual assault, kidnapping and sexual abuse.
