GILBERT, AZ — Gilbert police arrested three men as they attempted to use a credit card skimmer at two Gilbert QT gas pumps.

Court records show that on July 19 three men, Yaisel Sardina Romero, 28, Maikel Espinosa Benitez, 35, and Roberto Perez Rosales, 24, parked in front of gas pump 13 at the QT near Gilbert and Warner roads.

Surveillance video reportedly shows Romero positioning a Ram truck, so the gas pump is between the two doors. Romero then allegedly pries open the gas pump. An alarm alerted QT corporate and shut down the system.

The trio left in the truck just as police arrived. They were detained shortly after that.

QT security also told police that the same truck was seen attempting to access pump 13 at another QT four miles away, about 13 minutes earlier that night.

During the traffic stop, police say they found burglary tools and two credit card skimmers under the front seat.

Rosales and Romero were arrested for criminal damage, while Benitez has been charged with criminal damage, unlawful use of a scanning device, and computer tampering.

According to court records, Benitez has been arrested twice before in Pennsylvania for similar crimes and has warrants for his arrest from Pennsylvania and Texas.

As of July 30, officials have located a total of 69 credit card skimmers at gas pumps across Arizona.
