Police have captured a man who they say admitted to stealing items from at least 50 cars over the past year.

Phoenix police report that they initially identified 29-year-old Daniel Auz as a suspect in five vehicle burglaries.

On November 18, police were watching as Auz parked next to a truck in a parking lot near 59th Avenue and Thomas Road.

He then reportedly took a commercial paint sprayer from the back of the truck and put in in his vehicle.

He quickly drove away with his three children in the vehicle.

Police say the paint sprayer is valued at about $4,000.

Auz was stopped by police a few blocks away. Police say Auz allegedly admitted responsibility for the five vehicle burglaries. The value of the items taken in the five thefts is about $14,500.

Police say he also admitted to committing about 50 vehicle burglaries over the past year to support his drug habit.

He has been charged with theft and burglary.
