PEORIA — A Peoria man is accused of concealing and removing the dead body of an adult teen who overdosed in his home.

Peoria police report that on February 13 they began looking into a missing person report of an 18-year-old man.

On Monday detectives interviewed a witness who reportedly told them that they received a social media message saying the missing man had overdosed at a home near 75th and Peoria avenues.

Police records showed that they were called to the home on February 9 for a possible overdose and met a resident, 29-year-old Zachary Michael Nowak, in the front yard. Nowak allegedly told police that there was no emergency.

Police later learned that the victim was already deceased in the home, and Nowak transported the victim’s body to an area near Quartzsite, Arizona, where he dumped it at the side of the road.

Police say the victim overdosed on heroin and Nowak asked a friend to bring Narcan to his home. However, the victim was already dead.

Nowak was arrested Tuesday for negligent homicide and removing and concealing a dead body.
