A man's children were able to call for help after he was assaulted with a bat.

Tolleson police report that early Monday morning 28-year-old Jose Carlos Jimenez was arrested at his home in Phoenix for an assault that occurred on June 8, near 91st Avenue and Van Buren Street.

Police say during a family argument at an apartment complex parking lot, Jimenez grabbed a metal baseball bat and struck the victim several times in the head.

He then allegedly dragged the victim to the sidewalk and left.

The victim’s two pre-teen sons were at the scene of the assault. One assisted their father by taking off his shirt and applying pressure to his bleeding head, while his brother called 911.

A neighbor who heard the commotion also came out to help.

The victim was taken to the hospital with a skull fracture and brain bleed.

The children provided police with their mother's cell phone number. Their mother is Jimenez' girlfriend.

Jimenez was arrested for attempted murder and assault with a deadly weapon. He's been given a $150,000 bond.
