PHOENIX — A Phoenix man was arrested after leaving a 5-year-old boy in a car Thursday afternoon.

Phoenix police report that Thursday afternoon around 4 p.m., 26-year-old Isaac Smith intentionally left his 5-year-old stepson in the car. Ironically the vehicle was parked outside of a pediatric center near 7th Avenue and Thomas Road.

Court documents say the outside temperature at the time was 86 degrees.

Police say the child screamed for Smith not to leave him.

Police located Smith in the area and he allegedly admitted to leaving the boy alone in the car. He reportedly told police that he smoked meth earlier in the day and "became confused."

Smith was arrested for child abuse.
