A Phoenix teen was able to defend himself with a golf club after being assaulted with one.

Phoenix police report that on August 29. 57-year-old Glenn Freeman asked a 15-year-old for a cigarette and was denied. He then allegedly took a golf club from his case and struck the teen in the head, cutting him.

Police say the teen took another golf club from the bag and used it to defend himself, before running into a store, near 43rd and Glendale avenues. A store employee contacted police, who located Freeman a few blocks away, holding a broken golf club. 

The teen was taken to the hospital for stitches.

Freeman was arrested for an assault on a minor and aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.
