PHOENIX — A squad of firefighters cornered an arsonist responsible for setting fires to an alley in South Phoenix.

Phoenix police report that on April 13, firefighters with the Phoenix Fire Department were checking out alley fires near 7th Avenue and Buckeye Road.

At one fire they reportedly found 35-year-old Elias George Bustos kneeling next to the flames. One firefighter grabbed a nearby bucket of water to put on the fire when Bustos allegedly grabbed her arm and pushed her away.

The rest of the squad cornered Bustos, holding him until police officers arrived.

Bustos would later tell police that he was burning his feces in the alley in some form of ritual.

Bustos, who has a long history of arrest for armed robbery, assault, and various drug crimes, was arrested for arson and aggravated assault of a firefighter.

He is being held without bond since he was already on release for a prior felony.
