A high school student has been accused of sexually assaulting a classmate at school.

Court records show that on September 15 a 16-year-old male student at the East Valley Institute of Technology allegedly sexually assaulted a female classmate in the elevator at the school.

Mesa police report that the students are classmates in the law enforcement program at EVIT near Dobson Road and Main Street.

The victim told police that she gave the suspect a hug outside the elevator but once inside he began touching her all over her body and would not let her go. She told police that she repeatedly told the suspect to stop, but he disregarded her appeals and reportedly sexually assaulted the victim.

After the attack, the victim reported the incident to a teacher. Police say there was also medical evidence of the crime. Police interviewed the suspect who reportedly told them, "he got turned on by the hug and continued."

He also told police that he didn't hear the victim telling him to stop because "he was caught up in the heat of the moment."

The suspect was arrested the next day and has been charged with sexual assault and sex abuse.
