A 17-year-old male has been arrested for causing a deadly collision at a Chandler intersection in August 2017.

Chandler police report that the teen self-surrendered with his attorney on Monday.

Police say that on August 4 at about 3:20 a.m., the teen was driving a 2013 Volkswagen Jetta when he allegedly ran a red light and crashed into a Chevy truck, at the intersection of Dobson and Warner roads.

Police say the collision was so violent that it was heard on a surveillance camera, nearly a mile away.

Witnesses pulled the victim, Rafael Ortiz, from the truck before it burst into flames, but Ortiz was unable to be revived.

Investigators say the teen's BAC level was reported to be .147 and he was traveling at 107 miles per hour at the time of the crash.

The medical examiner believes the victim died on impact.

The teen has been charged with second-degree murder. Right now the suspect is being charged as a minor and therefore has not been identified.
