A Chandler woman is charged with child abuse after allegedly leaving a 6-year-old girl on the side of the road in the 110-degree heat.

Police report that 27-year-old Candice Flynn was driving a car near Ray and Kyrene roads in Chandler about 6:40 p.m. on July 29th, when she got into an argument with her boyfriend. Police say she stopped the car and requested that he get out of the vehicle, which he did.

When the man was no longer in the area, Flynn allegedly also instructed his 6-year-old daughter to exit the car before she left. Police say the girl walked around looking for her father, but could not find him.

A passerby contacted police after seeing the child walking along the side of the road, carrying her car seat.

Police say the girl could not tell them how long she had been walking, but officers did notice the girl's skin was starting to turn red in the 110-degree heat. Police gave the child water and kept her in the air-conditioned patrol car while they made contact with the victim's mother, who was able to come and get the girl.

Police say they contacted Flynn a couple of days later and she reportedly confirmed that she left her boyfriend, but said the child must have gotten out of the car on her own. When police asked her how this happened without her knowing it, she reportedly hung up the phone.

Police say the child was fortunate to be found when she was, because the traffic in the area was heavy and a thunderstorm hit the area while they were waiting for the victim's mother to arrive.

Flynn is due in court in January to face charges of child abuse.
