PHOENIX — An arrest has been made in a deadly January hit-and-run crash.

Phoenix police report that on March 5, they arrested 59-year-old Byron Bruce Funk at a Tolleson hotel.

Funk is accused of striking and killing 26-year-old Quintell Coffman on January 20 about 2:30 a.m. as he was walking in the roadway near 83rd Avenue and Van Buren Street.

Police say an anonymous tip led them to the hotel where Funk was staying. When interviewed, Funk allegedly admitted to being involved in the crash, calling 911 then hanging up. Funk reportedly said he was afraid he would be blamed for the collision.

Police say Funk removed and replaced several damaged pieces from his Chevy Silverado pickup truck.

He is being held on a $100,000 bond for leaving the scene of a deadly crash.
