An alert neighbor followed a 71-year-old burglar who tried to evade police by attempting to jump a fence last week.

Glendale police report that on August 7, they responded to a neighborhood near 51st Avenue and Greenway Road.

A resident called police after reportedly seeing someone enter his neighbor’s yard. They also saw the rear arcadia door open.

Police say, a few minutes later the witness saw 71-year-old Frank Nunez leave the yard with two black bags.

The neighbor followed Nunez and called the police.

When officers located Nunez, he allegedly threw the two bags over a residential block wall. Police say, he tried to jump the wall, but was unable to get over it and ran.

Police caught Nunez and reportedly found the victim's jewelry in his pocket and other stolen items in the black bags, including two handguns.

Nunez has been charged with burglary.
