Two suspects were caught after burglarizing a Mesa home, but it's what they left behind that helped link them to the crime.

Mesa police report that on June 12 a woman returned to her home near Alma School Road and Main Street and heard voices inside.

When she opened the door, she allegedly saw a man and a woman in her home. They left out a rear window with bags of stolen items.

“It just pulls your heart right out of your body,” said Nia Davis, talking about walking into her house to find two burglars standing in the kitchen. “I’ve got nothing but fear in my heart now.”

“I'm nervous even being here.  I'm in here and I tell the children  to stay close. And that's not home,” said Davis.

Police say one bag was left behind and inside it was a Mesa police citation given to 29-year-old Gabriel Angel Yrigoyen.

As police were searching the area, a citizen stopped them and reported seeing a man and woman jumping fences near their apartment complex about a block away.

Police located and detained Yrigoyen along with 18-year old Destiny Joanna Reas. Police say both would later admit their involvement in the burglary.
