Homeowners beware if you hired this Chandler man to do contracting work for you.

Mesa Police report that on November 28 a man hired 52-year-old Brett Allen Roberts to install solar panels on his home near Val Vista Drive and Baseline Road.

Roberts allegedly claimed to be a licensed contractor and filled out a Salt River Project solar expansion application form saying so.

Roberts took a $500 down payment from the victim and promised to meet him at a location to buy parts, but never showed.

The victim checked on Roberts and found him to be a fraudulent contractor with 12 warrants for his arrest.

Roberts later claimed to police that he was a sub-contractor with "Sparkles Electric." The owner of Sparkles reportedly told police that Roberts was fired over the summer and was concerned that he was continuing to use their name.

The owner feared that he did sub-par work and homeowners could be at risk.

Police say Roberts has "numerous warrants and probation for Registrar of contractor violations."

He has been charged with criminal impersonation and theft.
