A Mesa man is behind bars for threatening a woman and other restaurant customers after she reportedly offered to help the man who appeared to be a transient.

Police say this happened outside the Filiberto's near 64th and Main streets in Mesa. Court records show the victim offered to buy a man some food when he started cursing and threatening to kill her.

Witnesses say they heard 56-year-old Gary Alan Adams yell, "You're going to hell after I kill you." The woman left the man and went into the restaurant.

Police say Adams went into the restaurant and started waving around a knife with an eight inch blade, threatening patrons and workers.

As police were called another woman confronted Adams to leave the restaurant, and he did.

Mesa police arrived shortly thereafter and arrested Adams.

He's being charged with threatening and intimidating and disorderly conduct.
