Police say a man who stole beer fled police in a Mustang with kids inside, and tried to run over an officer before hitting a SUV.

According to court records, Jesse William Jolly, 22, and three juveniles are accused of stealing two 24-packs of Budweiser Light from a Circle K near Cooper and Baseline roads on June 5 around 7 p.m.

An officer pulled up behind the Yellow Mustang Jolly was driving, but instead of pulling over, Jolly allegedly took off, nearly hitting another officer who was pulling up to the scene.

Jolly went onto the dirt shoulder, missing the officer and kept going. Jolly sped through intersections, ran red lights and blew past stop signs, police said.

Jolly continued south on Cooper to Guadalupe, where he crashed into an SUV with two people inside. Firefighters had to extricate them from the vehicle while Jolly got away. The three minors were caught by police.

Investigators caught up to Jolly four days later, when he was arrested.

Police quote Jolly as apologizing for nearly running into the officer during his getaway, saying It all happened so quick, I didn't mean to try and hit the officer."

Jolly faces charges of aggravated assault on an officer, shoplifting, endangerment and leaving the scene of an injury accident.
