A Mesa man was lucky to escape unharmed after his girlfriend pulled a gun on him and tried to shoot him during an argument.

Fortunately for the victim, the gun didn't fire, allowing him to run for help.

Court documents show that on February 27, 21-year-old Alicia Yvonne Jones was upset with her boyfriend because he was out all night. Police say Jones damaged the home and eventually tried to shoot the man while they were arguing. After it failed to shoot she pulled on the slide, hammer and safety to try again.

Paperwork shows that at that time the victim ran out of the house, with Jones following him. As he was walking over to a friend's car to leave Jones got in her car and tried to run him over. She came close enough that he needed to jump out of the way, the car grazed his leg and hit his friend's car.

Once police arrived they say Jones told them she didn't remember anything regarding the gun, saying she was so angry she possibly blacked out.

Police say the gun didn't fire because there was no round in the chamber and all of the bullets were still in the magazine.

Jones was arrested and charged with two counts of aggravated assault and one count of criminal damage.
