An Arizona Department Of Public Safety pursuit results in the capture of two drug smugglers and $175,000 worth of marijuana.

DPS reports on March 27 a trooper stationed along State Route 85 near Buckeye spotted a vehicle driving by with possible bundles of marijuana under a sheet in the cargo area.

The trooper attempted to pull the vehicle over, but instead, it sped off. DPS says the trooper pursued the vehicle for about 15 miles at speeds of about 100 miles per hour.

After sustaining a flat tire the vehicle stopped, and the two occupants were caught after a short foot pursuit.

DPS says they found bundles of marijuana weighing nearly 350 pounds and worth almost $175,000.

Arrested were 52-year-old Eligio Niebla Monzon, who has a prior conviction for smuggling illegal immigrants and 24-year-old Carlos Moroyoqui Neyoy, who is an illegal immigrant.

Bond for Neyoy has been set for $50,000. Bond for Monzon has been set for $75,000. Both have been charged with conspiracy, transportation of marijuana and unlawful flight.
