CHANDLER, AZ — A Chandler PayPal employee is accused of transferring PayPal money to accounts to help pay drug debts.

The Maricopa County Attorney's Office filed a criminal complaint against Eric James Gillette, 36, last week for theft.

Court records show that Gillette was a part of the "Customer Support Internal Consultancy and Advice Team."

He reportedly began to manually transfer money from PayPal to accounts belonging to his family and friends.

He was sending money to 10 accounts held by six people, a family member, and five acquaintances.

Those accounts "received multiple credits under the $100 threshold" which would not have needed manager approval.

Investigators say he transferred over $7,000 to the accounts. Eric later told police that the money sent to friends was to repay the money he used to buy drugs for resale.

A warrant for his arrest was issued on Monday.
