14-year-old boy dies after being shot in Phoenix last week

PHOENIX — Phoenix police say a 14-year-old boy has died after being shot last week by a friend in west Phoenix.

According to police, 14-year-old Joseph Michaelson was shot near 83rd Avenue and Indian School Road the evening of Monday, November 23.

He was taken to the hospital in critical condition but police say he has since passed away.

Police say Michaelson was in a room inside his home with several friends when a 16-year-old boy mishandled a gun and shot Michaelson.

The suspect fled the scene, then allegedly committed a robbery and took someone's vehicle at gunpoint.

The 16-year-old was later arrested and was booked for aggravated assault, weapons violations, and armed robbery. The suspect’s name is not being released at this time.
