PHOENIX — In a factory in north Phoenix, dozens of workers are stitching together masks. They're needed on the front lines, fighting COVID-19.
"The design itself comes from our experience with a lot of military-grade sewing," said Damon Evans, the founder and CEO of Arena Prints.
The company is an apparel printing and embroidery company. When Evans heard the country was running short on masks and healthcare workers were either going without or reusing their masks, he decided to change to change direction.
"For us to pivot and make some adjustments that accommodate both law-enforcement and the medical community, it was really not a problem," Evans said.
A replaceable N-95-compatible filter can be swapped out in the mask when needed.
Several Valley hospitals, police and fire departments have already put in their orders.
Damon says he's also making the masks available to every Arizonan with a carbon filter he says filters out about 85% of particulates. N-95-compatible filters will be available to the public sometime in May.
