District 30 Arizona House Representative Raquel Terán and her husband have tested positive for COVID-19 and are now quarantining.
According to a press release from the Arizona House Democrats, Terán and her husband Eddie Barron say they tested negative for the virus on both Monday and Thursday before visiting a family member who later tested positive for the virus.
Terán's husband began experiencing symptoms Friday and went into an emergency room were he tested positive, and Rep. Terán tested positive Saturday morning.
Rep. Terán is reportedly not experiencing any symptoms at this time.
Their young son is now awaiting test results as well.
"Like so many in our community, we want to be close to the ones we love. We miss them and we want to see them. We take extensive precautions when we go out, we wear masks, we keep our distance and we wash our hands, but we let our guard down with family. COVID-19 is highly contagious and cases are on the rise again. Listen to the experts and scientists, and make sure if you think you've been exposed that you get tested immediately." said Terán in a press release, "going through this process has confirmed my concerns about accessibility of testing. The experience for us to get testing took a lot of initiative. We have to make sure testing is available and accessible especially as cases continue to rise."
The press release also says they have begun contact tracing and they have notified everyone they have come in close contact with "over the past several days."
