Check out the Top 10 best & worst places to raise kids in the U.S.

PHOENIX- For those few lucky ones, you’ve been able to stay put in the same city and raise a family without needing to move any where. But for a lot of people, it isn’t so simple.

The average American can expect to move an estimated 11.4 times during their lifetimes, according to a survey by the Census Bureau. This could be based on job opportunities, or lack of, personal preference, etc.

WalletHub compared over 180 cities in the United States based on 47 key metrics, looking to reveal the areas that offer the greatest and the worst opportunities to achieve a “long and happy life.”

They used rankings like ‘family fun’, ‘health & safety’, ‘education & child care’, affordability’ and ‘socioeconomic.’ All of the factors created each cities ‘total score’ overall, in which they were ranked by.

In fact, two of the top 10 best cities to raise a family are found right here in the lovely state of Arizona.

Based on their findings, the top 10 “best” places were:

  1. Overland Park, KS
  2. Fremont, CA
  3. Irvine, CA
  4. Plano, TX
  5. South Burlington, VT
  6. Bismarck, ND
  7. Gilbert, AZ
  8. Fargo, ND
  9. Scottsdale, AZ
  10. Boise, ID

The bottom of the list reported the “worst” 10 places to raise a family:

  1. Detroit, MI
  2. Newark, NJ
  3. Cleveland, OH
  4. Memphis, TN
  5. Shreveport, LA
  6. Wilmington, DE
  7. San Bernardino, CA
  8. Hialeah, FL
  9. Baltimore, MD
  10. Augusta, GA

Other findings includes statistics like the most playgrounds per capita, most attractions, highest median family salary, etc. To learn more about this study, check out the website.
