In the wake of the spread of the novel coronavirus, companies around the country and in Arizona are asking employees to telework, limiting international travel and examining paid sick leave policies.
Paid sick leave often applies to more than just one employee's own mental and physical health.
An employee can get paid sick leave if their child, parent, spouse, or spouse's parent are sick. They can even get unpaid sick leave if nobody in their family or household is sick.
If school of an employee's child is shut down because of a national emergency and the parent has to be at home to take care of their child, the employee can qualify for paid sick leave.
