While Valley hospitals are preparing to treat patients from the coronavirus pandemic, they still don't have enough test kits for when patients flood emergency rooms.

"The testing has been tightly controlled by the public health department," said Dr. Stephanie Jackson, senior vice president and chief clinical value officer of HonorHealth. "It is restricted to people with symptoms or known contacts at this time."

She said she expects to see more test kits come available during the next few weeks.

"The public health department was only given a small number of tests for the whole state of Arizona," Jackson said. "Up until this week, we have only been able to test through the state lab. I do think there will be more available testing soon."
