For the eighth year running, the National Academy of Inventors and the Intellectual Property Owners Association released a list of the top 100 universities worldwide to be granted U.S. utility patents.

Both the University of Arizona and Arizona State University made this year’s list and cracked the top 50.

ASU ranked No. 12 worldwide with 137 patents granted in 2019, and UArizona ranked No. 39 with 62 patents. For UArizona, this ranking is its highest mark on the list to date.

UArizona jumped up 27 spots from last year’s listing and ASU fell two spots, despite being granted more patents than last year.
