The Seattle Mariners could playing some regular season home games in the Valley after Washington’s governor banned large-group events in three counties through the end of March in an effort to curb the spread of the novel coronavirus.
While no official plan has been announced, The Athletic website reported Tuesday, before the ban was announced, that people familiar with the Mariners’ contingency plans said the team’s Arizona spring training facility was a possible location for home games in the event of a ban.
The Mariners spring training facility is at the Peoria Sports Complex.
On Wednesday, Washington Gov. Jay Inslee announced the ban on all gatherings and events of more than 250 people in King, Snohomish and Pierce Counties, which contain the Seattle-Tacoma urban areas in an attempt to slow the spread of COVID-19.
