Phoenix City Council voted unanimously Wednesday to move forward with a bid to host the NCAA Women’s Basketball Final Four in 2025 or 2026.

The vote was requested by the NCAA to ensure Phoenix officials were supported the event and are willing to commit government services such as public safety and emergency preparedness support to help with all events that surround the basketball games.

If Phoenix’s inaugural bid to host the women's tournament is accepted, the games would be played at Talking Stick Resort Arena, the home of the Phoenix Suns.

The city-owned arena is currently undergoing a $230 million renovation that will be completed in fall 2021.
