ASU has received a $4.7 million grant from the National Science Foundation to support the creation of a groundbreaking X-ray device.
The compact X-ray free electron laser — CXFEL for short — is being built at ASU's Biodesign Institute in Tempe.
It's the only instrument of its kind in the world, according to an announcement Tuesday from the university.
XFEL lasers, which are incredibly fast and bright compared with typical X-rays, are like high-definition cameras that reveal previously unseen phenomena, according to the university.
