Once Southwest Airlines gets a host of new inter-island routes up and running in January, the airline doesn't anticipate much further expansion in the Hawaii inter-island market.
But even with the small number of flights Southwest has been flying inter-island thus far, its presence has had a noticeable effect on prices.
Southwest made a splashy entrance into Hawaii with $29 inter-island ticket prices and fares have dropped since Southwest's entry into the market.
"The majority of our inter-island expansion is behind us," Chief Revenue Officer Andrew Watterson told Bloomberg at an industry conference this week.
