The owners of Valley taco shop, Tacos Chiwas, spent their Sunday cleaning up the restaurant after vandals broke in overnight.

Armando Hernandez told ABC15 that the suspects broke through of the doors to get into the restaurant, stole $4,000 cash and damaged several lights.

The suspect or suspects also slashed two tires on his truck, he said. The restaurant is located near McDowell Road and 19th Street, just east of State Route 51.

Tacos Chiwas recently celebrated its year anniversary and the opening of Cafe Chiwas, which is located next door and serves tamales, pastries and coffee.

Hernandez said the restaurant has surveillance cameras, but because they record in 15-second increments, they did not show the suspects.

Phoenix police confirmed that a report was filed with them. A suspect description was not available.

Despite the damage, Hernandez said he was shocked by the break-in, but insisted the restaurant would be open for business on Monday.
