Where did Lorelai (Lauren Graham) and Rory Gilmore (Alexis Bledel) go when they wanted to get out of the house and chat? They went to Luke's!

On Wednesday, more than 250 coffee shops across the country will (at least temporarily) transform into Luke's Diner from the hit show Gilmore Girls, including two in Phoenix and one in Tucson.

There will even be free coffee! Between 7 a.m. and noon, each coffee shop will hand out a certain amount of free cups of coffee.

It is part of a promotion from Netflix, which is bringing the show back in a four-part miniseries on Nov. 25.

Coffee shops were sent hats and aprons with "Luke's Diner" on it and some signage for the promotion, said Nicole Marrero, general manager of Comoncy Cafe at AZ Galleria.

"Everybody is kind of excited about it," said Marrero in a brief phone interview. Her staff also plans on wearing flannel to match the style of Luke's character (Scott Patterson).

PARTICIPATING AZ COFFEE SHOPS:

Becky Holsten, 39, runs Octane Cafe in Mesa. It's a 16-seat coffee shop that is next to her husband's automotive business. She's been in business for just under a year.

"'[Netflix] totally reached out to me [about the promotion]," she said. "I have no idea how they found me or why they reached out or why they selected me. It's an honor to be a part of it. I'm just a small business."

She tripled her sales on Tuesday, she said, and had a lot of people call inquiring about the promotion.

On Wednesday, she will be serving muffins and cinnamon rolls and handing out free coffee.

"Hopefully it will put me on the map," she said.
