PHOENIX — Gertrude's Restaurant at the Desert Botanical Garden announced Thursday that it would close, beginning July 1, through September 8, to undergo renovations.

Bitsy Susich, who handles the restaurant's public relations, said in an email that an iron overhang is going to be installed over the patio and that it will have fans, heaters and lights so the patio can be used year-round.

Bathrooms will also be installed inside the restaurant and on the patio, she said. Previously, diners would have had to leave the restaurant and use the bathrooms near the garden's gift shop or front entrance.

The restaurant's indoor dining room is scheduled to reopen on Sept. 9, 2019, Susich said. The patio is scheduled to reopen on Nov. 1, 2019, she said.
