There's a new doughnut shop in town.
Masterpiece Donuts & Coffee+ opened on Monday in a recently-opened development near 40th Street and Indian School Road. It's in the same complex at Even Stevens and Tacos Tequila Whiskey.
It was opened by Tom and Sheri Schrader. Both moved to Phoenix three years ago from Kansas City where they also own a cleaning company.
The 1,600-square-foot cafe serves vanilla cake-batter doughnuts made fresh-to-order. Glass sneeze guards let you watch as a donut-making machine drops the dough in the fryer and sizzles until it falls into a collection been, a 90-second process.

From there, guests choose a frosting (vanilla, chocolate, strawberry, maple, glaze), a topping (Oreo pieces, M&Ms, dark chocolate pearls, sprinkles, Graham cracker crumbs) and a drizzle of syrup to finish it off.
Each doughnut is $1.50. They have 13 -- or a baker's dozen -- signature doughnuts named after famous artists. Picasso. Van Gough. Warhol. Though, guests can design their own.
Besides doughnuts, the shop also serves Elly's Coffee and tea.
It is open daily from 6 a.m. - 4 p.m.
The walls feature artwork from local schools, including Arcadia High School, as well as professional works from artists in the area.
