FRESNO — A baby was shot in the head over the weekend by a suspect wanted in connection with another shooting in California.

Fayth Percy, a 10-month-old girl, was reportedly shot early Sunday morning, Fresno police officials said during a press conference.

A man called 911 to alert them that he was driving the injured baby and met with officers nearby who rendered aid until paramedics arrived.

Investigators say the incident happened at a family gathering near the home of the baby and her 18-year-old mother.

During the gathering, 23-year-old Marcos Echartea was inside the residence. The child's mother had met him a week before and tried to make repeated advances toward her.

At one point, the mother decided to leave the gathering with her baby and got into a vehicle with a friend.

Echartea approached the vehicle and fired three rounds into the driver’s side window. One of those rounds struck the baby in the head, who was in her mother’s arms.

Echartea was arrested at the scene.

"When our detectives brought him downtown, he had no remorse," a police spokesperson said, according to ABC15's sister station in Bakersfield. "He had just shot a 10-month-old baby and didn't even seem to care or it didn't phase him."

Echartea was reportedly wanted in connection with another shooting involving a different woman. In that case, he fired rounds that nearly struck a child.

According to thestation in Bakersfield, he faces felony charges in relation to the second shooting.
