A couple woke up to find an armed intruder in their bedroom last week in El Mirage.

Court documents show that around 5:30 a.m. on Jan. 3, a couple living in the area of Cactus and El Mirage roads woke up while a suspect was stealing items off their nightstand including a .38 caliber handgun.

The suspect reportedly threatened to shoot the couple as he fled from the home.

In his haste to leave, a backpack was left in the backyard.

Police say when they searched the backpack, they found papers leading them to 21-year-old Rayzale Scott.

Scott was found about six hours later a few blocks away. Police say when they searched him, they found an "Air Force Challenge Coin" that belonged to the victim.

Scott later admitted his involvement to police, saying he was a "lookout" for two other suspects and the challenge coin was his payment.

Police say Scott is a known gang member in California and Colorado and is being held without bond on charges of burglary, theft, hindering prosecution and possession of burglary tools.
