Two suspects have been arrested after a man died during an attempted robbery at his Gilbert home Monday night.

Police responded to the residence near Houston Avenue and Gilbert Road around 9 p.m. after reports from a witness who saw 27-year-old Shane Mullins being attacked by two assailants.

Once inside, officers found Mullins tied up and not breathing. They also heard noises coming from overhead, and located two men hiding in the attic.

Gilbert police say it appears 20-year-old Torre Sanders and a 17-year-old man intended to rob Mullins and steal drugs and other valuables from the home. Both were arrested at the scene.

The specific cause of death has not yet been determined, but Gilbert police say it appears the suspects' actions "directly contributed to the death of Shane Mullins."
