While Arizona schools remain closed for teacher walkouts, Valley food banks are trying to help fill the gaps and keep students fed. However, they're in need of donations to keep the programs running.
United Food Bank partners with Brainfood to deliver weekend food bags to schools for about 3,500 students to bring home. They had to be ready a day earlier this week because of the school closures. Dozens of teachers went to the food bank to help fill the bags.
United Food Bank is working on a backup plan for the school deliveries next week if the schools remain closed.
Now, the nonprofit is asking for help to keep the program going. They are in need of food and cash donations as well as volunteers.
